Reported cigarette use in
the previous month among high school seniors appears to have decreased
slightly from 1975 through 1980 and then leveled off through the
early 1990s. During the 1990s, cigarette smoking appears to be
increasing again among US High School Seniors. The percent of
high school seniors who admit using smokeless tobacco appears
to be fairly constant (around 15% admit using smokeless tobacco
at least once during the past 30 days) during the years that the
NIDA survey asked about smokeless tobacco use.
